There’s no doubt robots are coming online in a big way—just look at Boston Dynamics’AtlasandSpotfor proof of that statement. But while those robots actually look like robots, some manufacturers are moving more in the direction ofreplicants(replicant复制品), in that they’re aiming to make their robots far morehumanlike(像人的).Take these new Robo-C androids from Russian robot manufacturer, Promobot, for example, which aim toduplicate(复制)the appearance of any human a buyer desires.
Although thecreepy(令人毛骨悚然的)factor may seem quite high on these androids, the company’s stated goals seem relativelybenign(温和的). According to Promobot’smission statement, the company basically wants to create robots that can be deployed to help with customer service, sales, miscellaneous(各种各样的)client interactions, and personal in-home use. The robots are able to perform “real employee functions” according to Promobot’s mission statement, and can answer questions about a company’s products, as well as perform “specific business tasks.”
Ina statementannouncing the launch of the Robo-C androids, which comes viaThe New York Post, Chairman of the Board of Directors of Promobot, Aleksei Iuzhakov, said that “Everyone will now be able to order a robot with any appearance—for professional or personal use.” Iuzhakov added that these robots willtap into【(词组)开发,应用例:The company will try to tap into Japan's rice market. a huge market encompassing education, service, and entertainment, and gave use-case examples, including a robotic Michael Jordan selling basketball uniforms or a robotic Shakespeare reading his own work in a museum.
The tech specs for the Robo-C droids aren’t especially impressive considering theother humanoid robotsthat have been coming online over the last couple of years, but there’s certainly an emphasis on getting facial expressions to be as on-point as possible. Any given Robo-C is capable of 600 facial expressions, is sheathed inlifelike(逼真的,惟妙惟肖的)artificial skin, and canemulate(模仿)emotions such as anger, wonder, and fear. Robo-C droids will also be able to speak 11 languages andutilize(使用)100,000 speech modules in order to answer questions andpartake(参与,参加)in conversation.
